PLEA (Pharmacy Law & Ethics Association) Conference 2026

Yesterday, I spoke at the Pharmacy Law & Ethics Association’s annual seminar.  My topic was fitness to practise-related legal highlights of 2025/26 and I picked the following from a long shortlist:

~ Suresh v General Medical Council (a case about the duty of care, if any, owed to regulated professionals by regulatory bodies)
~ New PSA Standards of Good Regulation
~ The ongoing raft of fitness to practise freedom of expression cases (mentioning the Dr Abu-Sittah and Dr Cohen cases amongst others)
~ New GPhC Acceptance Criteria
~ Nurrish v Nursing & Midwifery Council (a case about how not to conduct a fitness to practise hearing)
~ Cygnet Health Care v Care Quality Commission (a case about bias and conflict of interest).

Another speaker might have picked an entirely different set of topics – it has been a busy year (although interestingly, not a year with any reported High Court appeals involving the GPhC or PSNI).

Special mention to the pharmacy students of Aston University who kindly volunteered their time to assist on the day – a fabulous bunch.
